FIECARE ÎMPLINEŞTE DESTINUL
Fiecare împlineşte destinul care îl împlineşte,
Şi işi doreşte destinul pe care şi-l doreşte ;
Nu împlineşte ceea ce îşi doreşte,
Nici nu-şi doreşte ceea ce împlineşte.
Precum pietrele mărginind straturile de flori
Ne-a rînduit si pe noi Fatumul, şi aici rămînem ;
Căci Soarta ne-a aşezat
Acolo unde avem să fim.
Nu am putea dobîndi o mai bună cunoaştere
Despre ce ni se întamplî decat prin cele ce ni se întamplă.
Sa împlinim deci ceea ce suntem.
Nu ne-a fost dat nimic mai mult.
EACH OF US FULFILS THE DESTINY
Each of us fulfils the destiny that fulfils him,
And wants the destiny that he wants ;
He doesn't fulfil what he wants,
Nor he wants what he fulfils.
Like the stones bordering the flowerbeds
Fatum has ordained us, and here we stay ;
For Fate has placed us
Where we have to be.
We couldn't acquire a better knowledge
About what happens to us, but by what happens to us.
So let's fulfil what we are.
We were given nothing more.
