Rabindranath Tagore

Aruncînd o privire spre ele, ea spuse :
" Ce sunt aceste lucruri ciudate ? La ce pot sluji ? "

AT DAWN I THREW THE TRAWL IN THE SEA

At dawn I threw the trawl in the sea.
I pulled out from the dark abyss strange treasures ; some were glittering like a smile, others were flushed like the cheecks of an young bride.
When, loaded with my precious burden, I returned home, my love was sitting in the garden and slowly tore the petals of a flower.
Thinking for a moment, I spread at her feet all that I had torn from the sea and then I remained silent.
Having a glance to them, she said :
" What are these strange things ? What can they serve for ? "
Ashamed, I lowered my head, thinking :
" I haven't striven to acquire them, I haven't bought them in town, they aren't therefore suitable gifts for her ! "
Then, I threw all the night, one after another, the treasures on the road.
In the morning some travellers passed and gathered them and carried them in far cantries.
