RÎURI SUBTERANE

Nu au aceste rîuri nume
Şi fără maluri curg prin lume.
Nu oglindesc vreun nor în ele,
Căci unde curg sunt bezne grele.
Nici pescăruşii, nici o clipă,
Nu le ating cu vreo aripă.
Nici fetelor n-or fi oglindă,
Nici zorii n-or să le aprindă.
Dar limpedea şi recea apă
Fîntîni nenumărate-adapă.
Pe sub pămînt curg, răbdătoare,
De-s ierni cu ger ori veri cu soare.
Împinse de-ntuneric doar,
Ca pur izvor ţîşnesc arar.
Privesc, cu transparenţe pure,
Ochi de izvoare din pădure.

UNDERGROUND RIVERS

These rivers have no name and flow
Through the world without banks.
They don't reflect any cloud
For where they flow is heavy darkness.
Nor gulls, not a moment,
Touch them with their wings.
They aren't mirrors for the girls,
nor the dawn ever lighten them.
But their clear, cold water
Numerous wells supplies.
They are flowing beneath the earth, patient,
In the hot summer and in the frozen winter.
Pushed by the darkness, seldom,
They gush as a pure fountin.
In the forest clear eyes of springs
Are looking, with pure transparence.
