Sunt însetat de lucruri atît de-ndepărtate.
Sufletul plin de dor tînjeşte să ajungă necercetate ţărmuri.
O, tu, mai presus de orice nume, cît de sfîşietoare-i chemarea flautului tău !
Uit, uit mereu, că n-am aripi să zbor, că sunt pe vecie, legat de pămînt.
Sufletul flacără mi-e, somnul mi-alungă ; sunt un străin într-o ţară străină.
Suflarea ta ajunge pînă la mine murmurîndu-mi nădejdea de neatins.
Inima mea cunoaşte glasul ca şi cum ar fi al ei.
O, tu, de neaflatule, cît de sfîşietoare-i chemarea flautului tău !
Uit, uit mereu, că nu mi-e cunoscută calea, că nu mi-e dat înaripatul cal.
Nu pot să-mi aflu liniştea ; sunt un pribeag în chiar inima mea.
În ceaţa-nsorită a orelor lîncede, ce uriaşă arătare-a ta se-ntruchipează în albastrul cerului!

Uit, uit mereu că pretutindeni sunt închise zăbrelele în lăcaşul în care singur rămîn.
