Înfrîngerea poate, ca şi victoria,
Să zdruncine sufletul ca să-i arate splendoarea.
Cînd marele stejar se clatină în vifor
Ramurile sorb o nouă frumuseţe, iar trunchiul
Dezvoltă rădăcini mai puternice în partea bătută de vînt.
Numai sufletul care a cunoscut o durere puternică
Poate trăi un mare extaz. Durerea îi poate da sufletului
Mai multă putere de a se bucura.

Shake the soul for showing its splendour.
When the great oak tree shake in the storm
Its branches sip a new beauty, and the trunk
Makes more powerful roots in the side blown by the wind.
Only the soul that have known a strong pain
Can live a great ecstasy. The sorrow can give to the soul
More power to rejoice.
