Am strîns-o la inimă cu dragoste neliniştită, iată de ce s-a veştejit floarea.
De ce-a secat rîul ?
Am pus stăvilar de-a curmezişul lui, ca să fie numai al meu, iată de ce-a secat rîul.
De ce s-a rupt struna harfei ?
Am încercat să-i smulg un sunet dincolo de puterile ei, iată de ce s-a rupt struna.
WHY DID THE LAMP EXTINGUISH ?
Why did the lamp extinguish ?
I protected it with my coat, to defend it from the wind, that is why the lamp extinguished.
Why did the flower wither ?
I gathered it at my heart with restless love, that is why the flower withered.
Why did the river dry up ?
I put across it a dam, to be only mine, that is why the river dried up.
Why did the string of the harp broke ?
I tried to rip a sound beyond its power, that is why the string broke.
